Fall 2002 Newsletter

Arnie Frye ‘40, has been married for 56 years to Barbara. They have 5 children and 8 grandchildren. He is still painting and two portraits of Ted Williams hang in the Ted Williams Museum. Robert Ehrmann ‘40, recently finished a two-week trip to India. He reports that his 3 1/2 year old grandson keeps him extremely busy! Shirley (Borenstein) Bloom ‘43, is retired but still active in the Mass Directors of Art. She recently returned from the National Art Education Association conference in Florida. Charlotte Barron ‘40, has retired from the Election Commission Office, Newton City Hall. She celebrated her 81st birthday in July. She would love to hear from classmates at 617-244-9542. Noel Seicol ‘40, continues his full time practice of internal medicine. He reports that his granddaughter Rebecca ‘97, graduated from UMASS Amherst. Leah (Cohen) Bojar ‘41, is living in Chestnut Hill, MA. She wishes everyone well! Shirley (Miller) Carson ‘41, is healthy and living in Springfield, VA. Chris Hackett ‘42, is living in New York City. On a recent trip to Boston he ran into fellow classmates Jeanne and Arthur ‘45. Dee (Blanchard) Powers ‘42, reports that she still LOVES being in California, is staying in health and NOT feeling her age! Norma (Johnson) Spofford ‘43, is healthy and living in Washington state. She sends he well wishes to all! George Isenberg ‘44, is alive and well in Jupiter, FL. Mel Seidenberg ‘44, is living in Wilmette, IL. He retired as Executive VP of the Edwin Hancock Engineering Co in December, 2001. He sadly reports that his wife of 42 years died in 1998. He has 3 children and 7 grandchildren. Capt. Ross MacDuffie ‘45, reports that he is winding down and enjoying retirement in New Hampshire. Robert Abrams ‘45, and his wife Betsy ‘50, report that their youngest son, Joel Abrams ‘86, is the proud father of twins! Joshua and Miriam were born June 10, 2002! Harold Schwartz ‘45, is alive and well in Laguna Woods, CA. He recalls fond memories of BHS! Constance (Rosen) Woods ‘46, was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the Mental Health Association of Greater Houston. Richard Davis ‘46, and his wife Barbara summer in Ogunquit, Maine and spend the winter in Boca Raton. They have three children and four grandchildren. Richard Burgess ‘46, was a teacher, guidance director and superintendent of schools before retiring in 1989. He is currently an educational consultant for school systems. Lee Ruth (Guild) Miller ‘47, is living in Boca Raton, Fl. She has two sons and two granddaughters. Arthur Sparr ‘47, is retiring from business in 2002. He resides in Newton, MA. Dr. George Stoia ‘47, reports that he is living in Newton, MA with the same “heartthrob” of 44 years. His oldest daughter Lin is housewifing in Brooklyn, and younger daughter Kayla is a horse trainer and breeder in Aiken, SC. Aaron Fleischer ‘47, reports that his grandson made the Newton North Varsity Tennis team. He played for BHS, but reports that his 14 year old grandson can beat him in singles! Jim Corbett ‘47, recently moved to Buzzards Bay to be closer to daughter Alicia. Nicholas Williams ‘48, is looking forward to the 55th reunion in 2003! Anna-Marie (Kievit) Tierney ‘48, and her husband are enjoying retirement after their teaching careers. They spend their summers on the coast of Maine. Richard C. Fitts, Robert Hughes and Edmund Mackinnon of the class of 1948, all met in Florida for a mini reunion for the first time in over 50 years!! Gloria (Raynes) Luth ‘48, is married to Janus Luth. They have one daughter and 2 granddaughters, both of whom are in college. Margaret (Raulinaitis) Norcott ‘49, is a dietary consultant. She has 12 grandchildren, the oldest of which is finishing his freshman year at Worcester Polytec.

Doris Rosen ’40 is living in Newton, MA. Vincent Lally ’40 is still consulting at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. He is still running 5K and 10K races, and winning! Charlotte Barron ’40 has just retired after working for 60 years. She was a secretary to Republican House Leaders of the Mass Senate. Robert Ehrmann MD ’40 reports that he is extremely active. His 2 1/2 year old grandson Nathaniel sees to that! Marjorie Velma Carr ’40 is presently married to Richard Baekey, Sr. Ret Navy Jet Fighter Pilot. She is the Secretary of The retired Officers Wives Club in Tampa, Fl. Irma and Bob Hyman ’41 report that life in Nevada continues to be interesting. They will celebrate their 55th anniversary this year! Irene Miller Lally ’42 and Mickey Lally ’41 enjoy working part time, golfing and spending time with their grandchildren. Edward Levy ’42 has been retired since 1987 from the mathematics department at Marblehead High school. He has been married for 52 years and has 2 sons and 5 grandsons. C. Wesley Baker ’42 died in August, 2000 after a long battle with cancer. Wes was the Captain of the BHS Football team. Barbara Macmillan Keel ’42 died recently in Pomona, MO after several strokes. Donald Bassist ’42 sadly reports that his wife of 48 years, Norma Anderson passed away of a heart attack in 1998. He has two sons, Matthew Perry Bassist and Bradford Beaumont Bassist. Bennett Rubin ’42 is living in Hagerstown, MD. Frank Loewenberg ’42 published his new book, From Charity To Social Justice - Studies Of The Emergence Of Communal Institutions For The Support Of The Poor In Ancient Judaism. This is a short book on the evolution of philanthropic institutions in ancient Judea during the time of the Bible and the Talmud. Charlie Burns ’42 wants to share his new life in Jesus Christ with other BHS grads. He reports that he started the Phoenix MatchPoint (adult christian mentoring program for troubled teens). Anyone wanting to hear the good news can call him at 480-816-0352. Jack Sheppard, Jr. ‘42 reports that Jean Pearlstein ‘45 gave her husband Jerry ‘42 a 75th birthday party in Boston, with 76 bmen attended. Seven fellows toasted Jerry. Friends since the third grade in Devotion School, Arlene Naar Paul ‘43 visited her friend Jeanne Herwitz Feiner ‘43 in May 2001. Arlene fell and needed hospitalization, so we hope she’ll return to New Jersey for another visit soon. Samuel Steen ’43, is living in Miami since being discharged from the army during WWII. He has 2 grandchildren attending Boston colleges. He practiced law for 50 years, and says he misses Brookline’s seasons! Stanley Wolfe ’43 and his wife Ruth celebrated their 45th anniversary this past year. They have 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren. Joy Gordon ’43, is living in Phoenix, Az. She says, “Call me when you come this way.” Her phone number is 602-266-9904. Joy has been a Health Professional for 27 years and is still practicing Therapeutic Massage as a Relaxation Specialist. Albert Maysles ‘44, whose groundbreaking documentaries with his brother David (who died in 1987) include “Gimme Shelter” and “Grey Gardens”, won the Cinematography Award for Documentaries for the heartbreaking “Lalee’sKin: The Legacy of Cotton”, about a proud, impoverished Southern family. Barbara Baker Taber ’46sadly reports on the death of her brother Wesley Baker ’42. He leaves his wife, 2 daughters , 2 sons and 9 grandchildren. Barbara Doyle Kelly ’43 is still living on Cape Cod. She misses the Cape Cod Friends of BHS Reunion. Evelyn Lerman ’43 has published a book titled Safer Sex - The New Morality. This is a book which discusses successful strategies to reduce teen pregnancy, lower abortion rates, fight AIDS and other STI’s and delay initiation of sexual intercourse. Alfred Kaffler ’43 retired in ’93 after being an attorney in New York for 30 years. He served one term as a lower court judge. He has 5 grandchildren, and reports that his wife is well. Barbara Dick ’44 is living in Brookline, MA. N. Lee Bausch ’44 and Judy just completed a planned 60-day road trip which evolved into 90 days. They traveled from San Diego by way of San Francisco to the East Coast, battling rigorous weather conditions. He is delighter to report that his grandchild total has risen to 19! George Isenberg ’44 is living in Jupiter, FL. Ernest Horne ’44 welcomed the year 2000 in Jerusalem. He observed the beginning of the year 2001 in South Africa, Botswana and Victoria Falls. Elizabeth Oakes ’44 sadly reports the death of Adele Kellinberg ’44 in April 2000. They remained friends throughut their lives after sharing a locker for 4 years at BHS. Elaine Hartman ’44 is still in Haverhill, MA, married to the same guy. She is retired and having fun with their grandchild. Paulette Knox Harwood ’45 will be celebrating her 41st season of Paulette’s Ballet Studio in Newton and Medfield, MA. Alvan Hirshberg ’45 passed away August 26th of a pulmonary embolism. He is survived by his wife, Donna Levine Hirshberg. Dorothy Shore Zinberg ’45 continues to teach at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and is writing a monthly column for the London Times Higher Education supplement. Gloria Richmond Spivack ’45 and her husband Herbert celebrated their 50th anniversary. Herbert was Gloria’s date for the Senior Prom of BHS. They live in E. Greenwich, RI. They have 2 children and 2 grandsons. Robert Abrams ’45 is Chairman of the Harvard Class of 1949 reunion at the Caribe Hilton in Puerto Rico in January 2002. Roy Gustafson ’46 would like to thank all those responsible for making a dream come true, helping him to receive his BHS diploma as a veteran of WWII. Charlotte Chester Waxler ’46 has lived for 28 years in Phoenix. She has been married for 50 years to Lewis. They have 2 children and 3 grandchildren. She is a Senior Docent at the Phoenix Art Museum and will become Master Docent in May. Jerry Baker ’46 is still working 45 hours per week and loving it! He and his wife Peggy travel the world on business and pleasure. He sadly reports the death of his sister, Lois Baker Smith ’49. She died in 1999. Elsie Leven Berman ’46 has been married for 51 years. She has 3 sons, 1 granddaughter and 2 grandsons. Florence Lewis Baker ’46 died in April 200 after a long battle with cancer. She always spoke of her times at BHS with joy and happiness! Barbara Hillson Abramowitz ’46 still lives in Marblehead in the summer and would love to hear from classmates at 781-639-2583. The rest of the year she lives in DC and welcomes calls at 202-882-4575. She has worked for 13 years raising money for the Holocaust Museum. She has 3 children and 5 grandchildren. Joan Crane Braverman ’47 was leaving a Cape Cod restaurant when she overheard a man remembering her cousin Newton Goldman ’41, who was an Air Force navigator and was killed in WWII. Thomas Tucker ’47 has retired to Amelia Island off the Northeast coast of Florida. He shot his first hole-in-one (147 yards, par3). Esther Wool Lasker-Don ’47 reports that her cousin Ann Stein and her husband have joined her in Sarasota, FL. Richard Davis ’48 is married to Barbara. They have 3 children and 4 granddaughters. He is retired from the Brookline Fire Department as a Captain. Ann Flanagan Arthur ‘49 sends “greetings to all 49-ers. She and her husband celebrated the 47th year of marriage. They are happy to say that they are in good health. They are almost finished with their major - home remodeling - what a task! Marvin Gorodetzer ’49 sold the Chateau Garod in 1984. He has 3 children and 8 grandchildren, in both Israel and New Jersey.

Stanley Ziman '40, is alive and well and living in Hollywood, FL. Phyllis (Rosen) Rose '40, is living in Boca Raton, FL. She is the proud mother of two sons and a daughter, the grandmother of 10 and great-grandmother of one. Shirley (Rosenberg) Endler '40, went on a cruise with cousin Marilyn (Rosenberg) Williams '40. Marilyn is a retired second-grade teacher who lives in California. Shirley would love to hear from fellow BHSers at JacShirl@WebTV.net. A correction: Noel Seicol '40, has a son, Rabbi Sam Seicol, not Lewis, as reported in a previous item. And although Sam did not attend BHS, he does have some pretty impressive BHS connections: his father, aunt (Elaine (Seicol) Appleton '37, wife (Jennifer Lewis '69) and daughter (Rebecca '98) all are BHS graduates. Our apologies for the error. Frederica (Kraft) Kaven '41, is living in Ithaca, NY and thinks about her high school experiences with warmth and gratitude. Irma and Bud Hyman '41, report that they are enjoying their "new" life in Nevada. They moved from Rhode Island two years ago to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Barbara (Davidoff) Halper '41, has been married for 56 years. She was saddened by the loss of her friends, Cissy (Kaufman) Schiller '41, and Betty (Simons) Weinstein '41. Before moving to North Carolina, a softball field in Westwood, MA, was named after Dr. Thomas J. McEntee '41. Tom lived in Westwood for 41 years. He notes that Donald Sutherland '41 was elected to the Mass. Track Coaches Hall of Fame, which was a great honor. Bernard Solomon '41 enjoyed the joint class reunion held last year and also appreciated the article on Stan Livingston in the recent newsletter. Jack Sheppard Jr. '42, recently hosted a luncheon to honor 18 men who served on the destroyer USS Ericsson. He reports that Roz Braen's husband Howard Green passed away three years ago and that she just remarried and is living in Simi Valley, CA. He also reports that Arnold Litvin '42, is living in Longboat Key, FL, with his wife Judy. Esther (Kabatznick) Alpert '42, just returned from a trip to Israel to celebrate her husband's brother's 87th birthday. The whole family gathered on a kibbutz for a weekend. Joseph McCarthy '42, spends time counseling seniors on Medicare-related problems. His remaining free time is spent with the Fire Museum. Joseph Samuel '42, celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with wife Marie. He is still active in the family business. He golfs regularly and enjoys gardening. Joe has three children and six grandchildren. Alan Tichnor '42, and his wife Marjorie Krensky Tichnor '45, celebrated 52 happily married years. They are very proud of their four children, three in-laws and 12 grandchildren. He reports that classmate Dr. Edward Krensky '42 died last May. Shirley (Bornestein) Bloom '43, retired as head of the Art Department in the Winthrop Public Schools in January '00. Robert (Schneier) Marshall '43, celebrated his 75th birthday with his twin brother, Ken. He came up from Florida with his twin daughters to celebrate. Audrey (Pinksohn) Piel '43, celebrated her 55th wedding anniversary in August. She is enjoying life in Florida and reports that her two grandchildren were married in the past two years. Jaqueline (Fisher) Leabman '43, is still traveling a great deal. She had a great trip to China and is planning a trip to Egypt and Hawaii. Bert Rabinowitz '43, and his wife are now permanent residents of Antigua. Following the sale of the couple's home in Wellesley last year, they established a trust at the JDC/Brookdale Institute for Research. Bert reports that he is trying to reach 75 by swimming daily, playing tennis, golfing and learning Spanish. Janice (Berg) Schulman '44, is happily transplanted from the Philadelphia area to San Francisco. She now lives in close proximity to her three children and three grandchildren. Jackie (Delaney) Shanck '44 and her husband Stan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by making a trip to Singapore where their son and his family live. They also went to Bangkok, a gift of their children Stephen and Alison. They also enjoy driving trips in the U.S. Nancy (Lane) Rynearson '44, enjoyed a Lane family reunion on Cape Cod. She enjoys playing golf, traveling, and spending time with her 24 grandchildren. Aida (Katatznick) Press '44, visited with Ruth (Cline) Seligman '44, on a recent trip to Israel. Adele (Keelenberg) Seaver '44, died earlier this year. Our condolences to her family and friends. Dorothy (Taymor) Lakin '44, and her husband Irwin have lived in Florida for 11 years. She enjoys duplicate bridge. Theodore Renick '44, reports that he is in the final stages of beating his second cancer - besides that, everything with his wife, kids and grandkids is fine. Jacqueline (McNeilly) Freese '44, and her husband Jack have six children and 17 grandchildren. They are both enjoying retirement. Ervin Kaplan '45, is currently working on the Fox TV show King Of The Hill. Involved in the animation industry since 1956, he was formerly director of color for 23 years at Filmation Studio. David Silverman '45, reports that his fourth grandchild, Molly, was born on June 28. Sue (Marcus) Rodman '46, spends her time between Cape Cod and Florida being very decadent and having lots of fun! Sabin Levenson, MD '46, finally retired after a fifth career in surgery. He just gave his wife a 70th birthday party, attended by Norma (Shoolman) Arnow '49 and Barbara (Levenson) Greenberg '49. Barbara (Baker) Taber '46, is still enjoying retirement on Cape Cod. David Rosenfield '46 was re-elected commander of Jewish Veterans Post in Fall River. Karen Wagner '46, is enjoying life to the fullest in beautiful New Hampshire. Betty (McLean) Rogers '46, and Ruth (Weinstein) McDonough '46, have kept in touch since 1946. In March of 2000 they took a wonderful tour of Italy together. Bill Bennett '46, is alive and kicking, running two recruiting companies in Boston. He spends a lot of time on his boat called "The Grump." Evelin (Baker) Eigler '46, is thinking about buying a year-round vacation home in northern Idaho. She enjoys water sports in the summer and skiing in the winter. Irving Dublin '46, is married with no children. He and his wife spend half the year in Brookline and half the year in Boca Raton. He enjoys golf and bridge. Mary (McGuire) Cook '46, retired from the U.S. government. She has one son, Richard, and five grandchildren. Carl Hoyer '47, retired in 1995 from AMICA Mutual Insurance after 24 years. He retired from the US Naval Reserve as a captain in 1990 after serving for 43 years. He's the president of the Town Council in East Greenwich, RI. He's been married for 44 years to the former Nancy Johnson of Medford, and has four children and 11 grandchildren. Marilyn (Garfinkel) Zacks '47 reports that her husband, Dr. Sumner Zacks, died on March 13, 2000. His family includes his wife, three children and three grandchildren. Grace (Hackel) LeBow '47, and her husband Irwin are beginning their 50th year of marriage. She is the co-founder of a company called Aging Network. She published a book titled "Coping With Your Difficult Older Parents: A Guide For Stressed Out Children." Her three children are married and she has four grandchildren. In October, Mark (Epstein) Mason '47, received the "Spiral Of Life" award, the highest non-medical award given by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. He is a real estate developer who lives in Pittsburgh, PA. David Brody '47, and his wife enjoy being connected with local theatres. They keep active and fit by walking, swimming and going to the gym. Nancy (Olian) Canter '48, is on the National Board of the Brandeis University National Women's Committee. She and her husband have four children and four grandchildren. John "Jack" Conners '48, sends his greetings from Arizona. He is looking forward to visiting classmates and family in spring 2001. Morse Byer '48, is the father of Adam and the grandfather of Alyssa. He recently celebrated his fourth anniversary with his wife Evelyn. After retiring from teaching in 1992, he spends his time volunteering, traveling and going to every Red Sox game in Oakland. Joann (Abrams) Rosoff '48, graduated from Radcliffe in '52 and Hunter College in '59 with a post-graduate degree in Early Childhood Education. She is a former merchandiser, early childhood teacher/administrator and is currently a freelance editor and writer living in New York City. Richard Snow '48, and his wife have five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He and his wife live in Orlando. Margaret (Raulinaitis) Norcott '49, and her husband Ed have eight children and 12 grandchildren. She works as a dietary consultant. Marie Fitzgerald '49, went to Alaska for a two-week sea and land tour and experienced her first helicopter ride! George Waterman '49, is retired and has seven children and nine grandchildren. Anne (Flanagan) Arthur '49, has been spending time remodeling her 33-year-old house.




 
Spring 2000 Newsletter

Stanley Ziman '40, has nine girls between his daughter, granddaughters and great-granddaughter. He has one grandson who is a dentist. Leona (Sampson) Glickman '40, will celebrate her 59th wedding anniversary in June. She has four children, all married, and five grandchildren. She also has four great-grandchildren. Husband Manny just retired and they will be living on Cape Cod for the summer. Noel Seicol '40, is living in Rye, NY. He reports that his granddaughter Abby (daughter of son Lewis, BHS '69), gave birth to identical twins last summer. Herbert D. Sedlis '40, reports that his mother, Rose Sedlis Beal, just celebrated her 105th birthday. He and his wife run Smith's Picture Framing & Art Gallery in Fort Lauderdale. He plays golf and tennis every week and enjoys travel. Marvin "Mickey" Lalley '41, is keeping busy playing golf. Harry Holzwasser '41, is retired and living happily in Florida with his wife Carole. Eldon Scott Cohen '41, is still engaged in public affairs consulting. He is also serving on the board of the Public Diplomacy Foundation. He is living in Arlington, VA and is vice president of the Arlington Historical Society. Ken Monteith '41, and his wife Gloria Brand '43, have been married for 55 years. They have two children and four grandsons. He retired 10 years ago and volunteers now at Glover Hospital. Ruth (Kerrigan) Granahan '41, lives in Newton, spends summers in Ocean Bluff and winters in Florida. She is retired from decades of teaching at Devotion School and she remains friends with classmates Mary (McCarthy) Sullivan and Helen (Bracken) Johnson from Heath School days. Manny Abrams '41, just completed a course in Horace's Poems and Satires (in Latin!) and is planning to audit Ancient Greek at Wellesley College. He is still playing violin at the New Philharmonic Orchestra. Harold Bornstein MD '42, is a semi-retired pediatrician. He has three sons and two grandsons. E. Irene (Miller) Lally '42, reports that she's enjoying retirement. She's looking forward to Bob's daughter's wedding in August; he graduated BHS '69. She has time to travel now and recently returned from New Orleans. Peter Powers '42, and his wife Beverly Powers '43, have been married for 53 years. They moved to Longwood, FL seven years ago and remain active. Peter is an advertising representative for the Jewish Community Center and Beverly hosts a cable TV show called "Young At Heart." Their daughter and son live nearby. They would love to hear from anyone living in central Florida. Catherine (Kelleher) Flynn '42, passed away on September 19, 1999, She leaves her husband Jack, two daughters and three granddaughters. John (Jack) Craven '42, was inducted last year into the Enlisted Combat Aircrew Roll of Honor aboard the carrier Yorktown for meritorious service during World War II. Esther (Kabatznick) Alpert '42, says that retirement allows her to do a lot of things she never had time to do before. She is currently teaching English to a small group of seniors from Iran and Russia. Dotty (Blanchard) Powers '42, is living in California. She and Joan Kerwin Coleman are looking forard to the next reunion. She also reports, sadly, that classmate Phil Katzaff passed away last October. Bennett Rubin '42, was named president of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra. He has a past steeped in music, and has collaborated with legendary jazz bassist Ray Brown. Jack Shepard Jr. '42, reports that his wife Annabelle surprised him with a 75th birthday party at the Sherborn Inn in Sherborn, MA. Alan Trichnor '42, gave the opening prayer. He also reports that Evelyn (Gorfinkle) Lerman '43, gave a a 75th birthday party for her husband, Albert Lerman '42, in Sarasota, FL and that Mel Hootstein '42, and his wife Lennie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Florida. Herb Anker '42, and his wife Bea have nine grandchildren. Grandson number 2, Josh, will play varsity football at Granada Hills High in California, where John Elway played high school football. Enid (Greenberg) Shapiro '42, is consulting on senior and family life cycle issues such as health care, housing, etc. She is a member of the national board of the Abraham Fund, devoted to co-existence programs for Israelis and Israeli Arabs. Maxine Beller '42, has been married to her husband Jack for over 53 years. Her son Albert is a psychologist and her son Harvey is a banker. She has five grandchildren. Elyse (Lipkin) Katz '42, lives in Newton with her husband Robert. She has two grown children and a grown grandchild. She has been married for 53 years. Carolyn (Grellier) Lord '43, is retiring after three years volunteering as the manager of marketing for a hospital thrift shop. She just returned from a safari in Africa; her best trip yet! We sadly report that William Rofes '43 passed away this spring. Joy (Sanda) Gordon '43, has been a professional massage therapist for 26 years. She is also in the consignment business and is active in Christian missionary work. She resides in Phoenix, AZ and is looking forward to hearing from alumnae who visit the Phoenix area. Jacqueline (Fishel) Leabman '43, keeps busy travelling. She has been to Australia and New Zealand, and finally saw Niagra Falls on the way to Ottawa, Canada. Marilyn (Silberstein) Singer '43, is living in Sharon. She has two daughters and two grandchildren. She celebrated 50 years of marriage with her wonderful husband in October 1999. Rita (Freda) DiMento '43, reports that her tenth (and last, she thinks) grandchild was born this past December. CDR. N. Lee Bausch, USN (retired) '44, completed a 60-day trans-America road trip culminating in the June marriage of his eldest daughter in Akron. Elizabeth Oakes '44, is still enjoying life in New Hampshire. She and her husband Harold celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year with all of their children, friends and relatives. Tony Glaser '44 and Barbara (LeVine) Glaser '46, are about to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on a cruise to Italy, Greece and Sicily. Tony is a retired engineer and currently manages a women's club with 400 members; Barbara is a professor at George Mason University and project manager for American Public Human Services Association. Ed Heller '44, married Madeline Perry in 1956 and spent his working life in the sporting goods industry. He is now retired in Florida and enjoying life in general. N. Ronald Silberstein '44, has been married for 45 years. He has three children, all married, and eight grandchildren. He is enjoying golf as a new endeavor. George Isenberg '44, is living in Jupiter, FL and reports that he is "still taking nourishment." Gloria (Richmond) Spivack '45, celebrated her 49th wedding anniversary to Herbert this past January. She is still active in music circles on local, state and national levels and continues to maintain a private piano studio. Paulette (Knox) Harwood '45, is celebrating her 40th season of Paulette's Ballet Studio in Newton, MA. She has many dancers who are daughters of her early students. Jay Rosenfield '45, was elected, in a special election, to the NH House of Representatives: the first Democrat ever elected to that office from a heavily Republican district. Jerome Spier '45, reports that the class of '45 held its 55th reunion on May 7, 2000 at the Sheraton-Needham. The class has set up a scholarship in the memory of their housemaster, Mr. Bert Holland, who died December 13th, 1999. Betty (Israel) Epstein '45, has been married 52 years. She has four children and five grandchildren, Marvin Krims, MD '45, is still practicing psychiatry and is spending time writing about Shakespeare. He is building a new life with his bride of three years and enjoying his children and three grandchildren. Phyllis (Lebow) Darman '45, is living in the Towers of Chestnut Hill with the other "old folks." She spends her winters in San Diego and is generally enjoying life with her husband of 49 years, Sumner. Elyse (Lipkin) Katz '45, is living in Newton, MA. Bernie Delman '45, says that "life is good, even if it's not always perfect!" David Durno '45, is still traveling Europe in the summer and "dealing" in Vegas during the winter. Daphne (Golden) Glassman '45, and her husband Bob live in Falmouth, MA and Sarasota, FL. Howard Shecter '45, has just been named secretary/director of the NH Cibor-Continental brokers of the National Assocationo of Realstors. He also received additional designation as a certified trade specialist of the International Trade Association. Robert T. Abrams '45, just finished a three-year stint as class committee chairman of Harvard '49. Both Bob and his son David (Harvard '85) played at the 80th reunion of the Harvard Band. Although Elyse Lipkin Katz considers herself a BHS "person" (she would have graduated in '45), the war sent her family to Texas and she actually graduated from a high school in Detroit! She now lives in Newton with husband Robert of 53 years and has two grown chidlren and a grandchild. Richard Davis '46, is retired. He and his wife enjoy summers in Ogunquit and winters in Boca Raton. He enjoys seeing Hugh Dalzell and his wife Donna and sends greetings to classmates Mickey Lally and wife Irene, Mary (Ward) Sullivan and Barbara (Baker) Taber. Barbara (Baker) Taber '46, reports that she had a super trip to the Canadian Rockies in August. She spends her time playing lots of golf, gardening and running the thrift boutique at her church. John MaCandlish Phillips '46, is proud to announce that the Library of American Literary Classics has republished a piece he wrote about a young Marine who died in Vietnam. Betty Rose (Schwartz) Paller '46, is happily retired in Sarasota, FL, volunteering five days a week. She has a daughter who is a social worker in California and a son teaching at Columbia. Eleanore (Lewenberg) Frank '46, and her husband Mel are enjoying life in Florida. She says her golf game gets no better but she is still sculpting. They've enjoyed some wonderful trips, but best of all is when the kids and grandkids come to visit! Herbert Myers '46, retired to Florida in 1991. He says his old company Robert Half/AccounTemps is still doing great even without him! Howard Leavitt '47, just completed a book entitled "Proud Warriors, The Jewish Experience in the Military." It's now in the hands of his agent, with hopes that it will be published soon. Barbara (Hillson) Abramowitz '47, was a member of the founding staff of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. As director of major gifts, "Babe" was responsible for raising over 50 million dollars to build the museum. She is married to Rabbi A.N. Abramowitz. They have three children, and five grandchildren and still summer in Marblehead. Ruth Kavesh '47, learned the excitement of working for corporate America at a relatively late age. She is working for Time-Warner and loves it! Jim Corbett '47, sadly informs us that Elaine, his wife of 39 years, passed away during January 1999 due to cancer. He has been a financial planner for American Express for the past eight years. Joanne (Bloom) Perriens '47, spends her time traveling in Europe and enjoying her grandchildren. She also participates in lectures and trips at the adult education program in her area. Judith (Aronson) Alpert, '47, was recently elected to the board of directors of Boston University Friends of Libraries. She is working on the 50th reunion of the College of Arts & Sciences. She has been married to Martin Alpert for more than 48 years. Jack Schoenfeld '48, is still living in Manchester, NH and says hello to all '45 classmates. He retired two years ago. He has two daughters. Janet (Markson) Ruboy '48, retired after 17 years as director of West Suburban Long Term Care and opened Aging Link, a geriatric care management company with Renee Brezniak Glazier. Her husband George is still a lawyer. They have three children and three grandsons. John "Jack" Conners '48, is living in Mesa, AZ. He reports that he enjoyed his trip back East to the 50th reunion in '98. Martha Mitchell '48, is a full-time manager at the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. She is a passionate letter-writer, gardener, geneologist, grandmother and Maine coon cat owner. Marvin Rosen '49, has been living in Miami for the past 45 years and has four children and seven grandchildren. He is still an active real estate broker and has been married to Rochelle for 40 years. Aaron "Ron" Greenberg '49, and his wife Nancy, have two wonderful grandchildren - Josh and Ilana. Their son Danny recently married. Daughter Janet is married with two children. Second daughter Amy is an interior decorator and his wife Nancy is a legislative advocate. Sumner Burstein '49, is still working at UMass Medical School in the Department of Biochemistry. Robert Ehrmann '40, reports that his first grandchild, Nathaniel, age 10 months, is rapidly growing. Shirley (Rosenberg) Endler '40, is living in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Charlotte Barron '40, recently became a charter member of the WWII Women's Veteran Memorial, Washington, DC and a charter member of a new WWII Men and Women's Memorial to Veterans in Washington, DC. Norrie MacPhee '40, reports that he, Jim Drohen '40, and Arne Frye '40, old newspaper boys at Coolidge Corner News, have remained friends over the years and still get together a couple of times a year for lunch. Norrie is involved with the Scottish clans and is membership chairman for the Macfie Clan of North America. Edward Gill '40, and his wife Mary celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this year as well as the birth of their second great-grandchild. Noel Seicol '40, reports that his grandson, Steven, will be starting at BU this Fall in the School of Fine Arts. His son, Rabbi Sam Seicol, is the head chaplain at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Roslindale, MA. Noel's grandson goes to Driscoll and his granddaughter graduated from BHS. Marie (Mary Kofroth) Roland '41, was known as Mary in school, but changed her name to Marie some years later. James McIntosh '41, earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at Boston University after 50 missions as a B-24 navigator during WWII. He spent 25 years as the assistant dean of the School of Management at Boston University. Martin "Mickey" Lally and Irene (Miller) Lally '41, are living in Manomet, MA, and enjoy playing golf. Gladys (Maxon) Lawton '41, enjoys cruising and traveling as often as she can. She visits Brookline every year. She finds time for clubs, canasta and playing with her three great-grandchildren in Tucson. Harold Winthrop '41, retired in 1997 after 50 years in the shoe industry. He sadly reports that his wife of 44 years, Gertrude V. Winthrop, passed away this past April. Our condolences. Constane (Jones) Yena '41, started playing golf five years ago. She says it's a great game, but has no fantastic scores to boast of yet! Barbara (Bornstein) Cohen '42, and her husband David celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June. Esther (Kabatznick) Alpert '42, retired from the Los Angeles Unified School District seven years ago and is doing a lot of traveling. Jack Sheppard '42, tells us that Mel Hootstein '42, is living in Wayland, MA. Mel had a successful hip replacement last year and will undergo a knee replacement operation this year. Ethlyne (Stein) Golub '42, has been married for 50 years and loves living in New Hampshire. She and her husband have two children and five grandchildren. They spend winters in Boynton Beach, FL and she still keeps in touch with classmates Louise (Miller) Berlin and Rita (Slotnick) Goldstein. Robert Waterman '42, is teaching Head Start kids computers and delivering Meals on Wheels to the elderly. Lydia (Port) Jaynes '42, spends winters in Lake Worth, FL, and summers in Massachusetts. She enjoys travel. Ruth Estes '42, is living in Palm Harbor, FL. She sadly reports that her brother, Armstrong '31, passed away three years ago. Norma (Rose) Shelly '42, is living in Brookline and enjoys reading about old friends in the BHS Alumni News! Rodie (Rosanne Saftel) Siegler '42, is living in Middletown, RI. She is an award-winning artist whose extensive portfolio (ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, clay, oil painting, photography) believes the fact that she didn't really study art or produce any artwork until she reached her 60's. Her sculptures can be seen at the DeBlois Gallery, an artists' cooperative, where she is the treasurer. Reverend Francis O'Hare '42, is a semi-retired priest working four days per week in Andover. He resides in Gloucester, MA. Sid Sharpstein '43, is alive and vegetating in Boca Raton, FL. Robert (Robert Schneier) Marshall '43, and his twin brother Ken Schneier '43, celebrated their 75th birthday in Newton on July 24th. Helen (McElroy) McIntosh '43, reports that the graduating class of '39 from Edward Devotion School had a reunion at the Longwood Towers in June. Franklin Hoskin, Jr '43, is living in Maine and working as an insurance consultant. Selma (Whitestone) Lotto '43, reports that her husband Irving passed away in May of 1998. They were married 48 years. Since then, she has moved from Newton to Framingham to be closer to her two daughters and their Families. Eleanor (Ellie Arnold) Fraser '43, and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a cruise in the British Virgin Island, chartering a yacht for the family: three daughters and their husbands and four granddaughters. She reports it was "Fabulous!" Edward Novakoff '43, lives on the Cape during the summers and in Boca Raton, FL, during the winter months. He received an honorary doctorate in public administration from Mass. Maritime Academy. Nancy (Lane) Rynearson '44, reports that she had a great family reunion at Christmas '98: 24 grandchildren and 17 adults attended! She also enjoyed the '99 Cape Cod reunion. Murray Markson '44, is the chairman of the class of 1950 at Northeastern University. They will celebrate their 50th class reunion in the year 2000. Theodore Renick '44, enjoys living at the Cape and in Florida. He has three granddaughters and enjoys watercolor painting. Janice (Berg) Shulman '44, is enjoying her move to San Francisco and the chance it gives her to be with her children and grandchildren. Flo Harriet (Taylor) Sand '43, came to visit this past summer. Evelyne (Kesell) Feinson '44, celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary with her husband Milton this past July. Bernard "Barney" Birmingham '44, is retired and living on the cape. He reports that he is battling the "Big C". We wish him well. Mel Seidenberg '44, sadly reports that his beloved wife of 42 years, Annette Wein Seidenberg, died on March 21, 1998. Mel has two sons, a daughter and seven grandchildren. He a consulting engineer with the Edwin Hancock Engineering Co., is active in Jewish affairs worldwide and sings in the Beth Hillel Men's Club choir in Illinois. Adele (Salett) Caras '44, has three children and six grandchildren. She is now living in Boynton Beach, FL and enjoys playing golf. She and her husband celebrated her 52nd anniversary last year. George Isenberg '44, is now a legal resident of Florida living in Admiral's Cove in Jupiter. His neighbor is Ellie (Frank) Lewenberg. Elizabeth (Gertrude Fitzgerald) Howard '44, reports that her seventh picture book ("When Will Sarah Come?") was published by Greenwillow Books this fall. Her eighth book, 'Virgie Goes to School With Us Boys" will be published by Simon & Schuster next year. Velma (McAdams) Cook '45, is now retired and living in Naples, FL, and South Dennis, MA with her husband. Josephine (Finebergl 1..evine '45, is a retired dietitian. She has five grandchildren and lives in a beautiful part of California. She reports that she stays pretty close to home due to post-polio syndrome. Marvin S. Kaplan '45, an arts/entertainment insurance specialist, was a fourth time speaker at the fourth annual Conference of the Yankee Festival & Events Association and at the Rhode Island Film Investment Forum. Edith (Sliller) Haimes '45, is celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary this year with husband Albert. Roz (Braen) Green '45, recently remarried after being widowed. She is living in California. Howard Shecter '45, just made the honor society for the Board of Realtors and received the REM designation (Registered International Member). Ross MacDuffie '45, reports that the news of his sex change operation has been greatly exaggerated. Ross was listed as "Rose" in the last newsletter. Our apologies, Ross! Mary (Ward) Sullivan '46, retired in June as a resource specialist teacher for the Los Angeles Unified Schools. Dr. Constance (Rosen) Wood '46, has been in private practice in psychology for 22 years in Houston, Texas. She says she has no plans to retire; she enjoys her work too much! Florence (Lewis) Baker '46, is enjoying retirement in West Palm Beach, FL! Barbara (Baker) Taber '46, has been retired for 10 years and is living on Cape Cod. She keeps busy gardening, volunteering and running a thrift boutique shop at her church. She travels often and would love to hear from any '46 classmates or BHS grads on the Cape. David Rosenfield '46, was just elected to be commander of the Jewish War Veterans Post in Fall River, MA. Bill Bennett '46, is still actively running two international recruiting organizations in Boston. He spends summers in Ogunquit, boating and entertaining. Dr. Sabin Levenson, '46, continues to do well and is working as a part-time hospital accreditation surveyor in Arizona. He would enjoy hearing from BHS alums, especially those in Arizona. Elsie (Leven) Berman '46, has been married for 49 years and has lived in Wakefield, Lynnfield and Peabody. She has three sons, one granddaughter and two grandsons. Esther (Wool) Lasker-Don '47, reports that her cousin Ann Stein '47 has moved to Sarasota, FL with her husband Gerry and they're neighbors! Dave Brody '47, and his wife are busy volunteering at cultural events around the Ft. Lauderdale area. Richard Miller '47, is living in Hawaii and reports that "all is well in Paradise!" Longtime friends Mark (Epstein) Mason '47, and Robert Glashow '47, grandparents of seven and six grandchildren respectively, went to Morocco with their wives this fall. Mark is the owner and vice-chairman of Oxford Development Co. and Bob is the president of Woonsocket Sponging Co. William Lehrburger '47, and his wife Dinny went to Istanbul for five weeks on a volunteer consulting assignment. He also reports that he recently married off the last of his five children. Suzanne (Brody) Greenberg '47, is the director of the physician assistant program at Northeastern University. Marilyn (Doherty) Rowan '48, is on the advisory committee of the Phoenix College Senior Adult Program and does volunteer class instruction. Gerald Birnbach '48, is chairman of the board/president of the Rowe Companies. He has been married for 45 years, has four children and 10 grandchildren. She reports that her three daughters Tina, Betsy and Jane are all doing well in their chosen professions and that grandchildren Ben, Sara and Andy bring joy to her life. Neil Werner '49, sold his insurance agency in 1998 and is now enjoying his grandchildren, children, wife, golf and fishing. Ethel (Goldstein) De La Torre '49, is living in Lone Pine, CA. Although she couldn't make the 50th reunion last month, she's looking forward to the 60th (She notes, "Now that's optimism!"). Aaron Greenberg '49, wants to know if, after 40 years of "bells and buzzers," is he a famous alum? We think so! A retired game show producer, his credits include "Let's Make A Deal," "The Joker's Wild," "Tic Tac Dough" and "Sale of the Century" and many more TV shows. Ann (Flanagan) Arthur '49, is a retired librarian married to Fields B. Arthur II. She has three sons and moved to San Diego, CA in 1955.

Justin H. Frankel '40, is a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Signal Corps. He retired from Nynex after 28 years and is currently acting as a consultant to the telecom industry. He and wife Gladys have two children and four grandchildren. Vivian (Alpern) Rosenberg '41, has been retired from Northeastern University since 1992. Jane (Adams) Toumanoff '41, moved to New Hampshire from New York three years ago. She's enjoying bicycling, tennis and cross-country skiing, volunteers at the local library and edits and publishes a newsletter. She would love to hear from classmates. Chris Hackett '42, is fighting "the big C" and says he seems to be winning, but admits that it's tough. We send our best regards. Dee (Blanchard) Powers '42, still loves living in southern California. Dee (formerly known as Dotty), keeps busy tutoring young adults and volunteering at a local hospital. She sends a special hello to Ray Blue. Genia (Chmielinksi) Stebbins '42, is retired and spends lots of time traveling, volunteering and being involved with yacht club activities. Marvin Kaplan '42, was a media star last year! He was featured on the front page of "The Insurance Times" and the "Boston Sunday Herald." The articles both examined Kaplan's career and focused on his involvement in providing arts/entertainment insurance. Joan (Kerwin) Coleman '42, has been married for 53 years and has five children and eight grandchildren. Vera (Kassman) Tilson '42, retired after 25 years as an adjunct associate professor of voice at George Mason University in Virginia. She also retired as music director of the Unitarian Church of Arlington, VA, where she developed an active music program. She plans to continue teaching some private voice students, offer workshops and write concert and opera reviews. She's also working on a book about singing! Jack Shepard, Jr. '42, reports that classmate Alan Tichnor '42, and his wife Marge (Krensky) Tichnor '44, celebrated their 50th wedding annivesary last year at the Four Seasons. About 25 of the attendees were BHS alums. Norma (Rose) Shelly '42, says she and her brother-in-law Jack Kirrane '46, and sister-in-law Patricia (Murray) Rose '51, enjoy the newsletter, reading about old friends and the many programs at the high school. William L. Rofes '43, retired from IBM in 1988. He's been in Boynton Beach, FL, since then, and is active in the community and local politics. He also enjoys seeing Al Koffler '43, and Elliot Rice '43, every now and then. Jacqueline (Fishel) Leabman '43, is enjoying retirement and loves living in the South End of Boston where she can walk anywhere. She enjoys traveling and is planning a trip to Australia. The loves of her life are her five grandchildren. Franklin E. Hoskin, Jr., '43, is an insurance consultant in Maine. Channa (York) Friend, 44, is still teaching communications to adults at Nassau Community College on Long Island, as well as hosting and producing a Cablevision show called, "Career Talk." She celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary with husband Judge Solomon Friend in Hawaii, a gift from their four children and four grandchildren. N. Lee Bausch '44, is working with the San Diego Police Department and the San Diego Computer Society. He enjoys sailing and seminars and recently welcomed his 18th grandchild. He's putting together a 60-day roadtrip this year to revisit friends and family nationwide. She is recovering from a broken leg and getting to know her new computer. Progress on both, she notes, is going "fairly slowly." Gloria (Kessler) LaPerle '44, lives with her husband in Brandon, FL and they travel in their motor home from May to September each year. Evelyn (Kesell) Feinson '44, just celebrated her 49th anniversary and has a new grandchild. Aida (Kabatznick) Press '44, notes that several members of the BHS Class of '44 participated with her in a Radcliffe Class of '48 event last June, including Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) Howard, Janice (Berg) Schulman, Marcia (Wolper) Barrabee and Goldye (Weinstein) Croudo. Bernerd Delman '45, received an award as an Elderpreneur of the Year. Bernie founded a company called "The Lot Broker" to bring buyers and sellers of funeral plots together. A political activitist, Bernie is a founder and past president of the Sharon Jaycees and keeps busy with many local volunteer activities. He has been a member of the Sharon (MA) Road Runners for 25 years. Phyllis (Ringer) Graves '45, reports that she is living in Green Valley, AZ, with her Akita, Tsuki, "two old gals having a great time!" All six children and 15 grandchildren are well. Barbara (Schlosberg) Goldberg '45, is living in Holyoke, MA, in the winter and in Palm Beach in the summer. She has nine super grandchildren and just celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary. Ruth (Nayor) Robinson '45, got married last year in Hawaii for the third time. Rose MacDuffie '45, had an angioplasty in April last year and had bypass surgery in October. She feels the best she has in awhile and sends best wishes to all. He is working 50 hours a week as president of a Japanese company's U.S. subsidiary and just ran a reunion for his Colby College fraternity. William M. Bradford '46, is still running a video production company and teaching ballroom dancing. Karen (Ljungquist) Wagner '46, adores New Hampshire and says she never had it so good. She loves the mountains, woods and all the local conveniences nearby. Robert Glashow '47, reports the birth of his sixth grandchild, Jacob Wesley. Doris (Goodman) Gummer '47, is a retired administrative assistant now working again part time in the periodicals department at a local library. She has four beautiful grandchildren and one recently married step-granddaughter. Barbara (Hillson) Abramowitz '47, is living in Washington, D.C., and would love to hear from fellow alums. Aaron Fleischer '47, is a trustee of the Hammond Park Condo Association and is still working as a real estate broker for Chobee Hoy Real Estate in Brookline. Joseph F. O'Connor '47, is living on the Cape in semi-retirement, near classmates Fuzzy (Hayes) Rogovin and Peter Voudouris. All things considered, he says, life has been good. "BHS was a wonderful and valuable experience with evergreen memories." Gerald Bonder '48 , was feat ured in a "Boston Globe" article last May. Confined to a bed in Mass General after quintuple bypass heart surgery, Bonder "attended" his grandson's Bar Mitzvah in Framingham via a unique satellite hookup. Bonder wore headphones and participated in the event via a video and audio link, using a microphone to give a speech at the ceremony. All this while in his pajamas and hooked up to a heart monitor! We hear he's doing well and wish him all the best. Howard Shecter '48, is happy being single again and is a proud grandpa with five grandchildren. He's working full time as a commercial real estate broker in New Hampshire. Arnold Zack '49, was appointed as a member of the Harvard University visiting committee on human relations. Frances (Hyde) Ross '49, known as Frankie, is still spending winters in Puerto Rico but maintains her permanent address in Florida. Harriet (Sagoff) Samors '49, now has six grandchildren; her daughter and husband adopted a Vietnamese girl. Harriet says she is a wonderful addition to their family. Roz (Davidson) Landres '49, spends a lot of time traveling, doing Elderhostel and Interhostel. She frequently visits her children in California, Michigan and Northern Virginia and continues to do community volunteer service in the Norfolk and Virgina Beach area in Virgina.

Louise (Fish) Miller '40, and her husband still play a lot of golf, bridge and they travel the world. They have been to Bombay, Barcelona, Brunei, Buenos Aires and Borneo-and that's just the B's! Stanley Ziman '40, reports that he is well, but requires surgery every three months. We wish him the best! Jim Kelly '40, has retired and works part-time at Boston College. His wife is a retired nurse and they have five grandchildren. Jim is still a sports buff and fondly recalls the days when he was a member of the first state championship BHS football team. Charlotte Barron '40, is a member of the Women's Memorial in Washington, D.C., in honor of the women veterans who served during WWII in all the branches. Charlotte proudly served in the WACs from 1943-1945. Harry Holzwasser '41, is retired and living in Boca Raton, FL with his wife Carole. He is looking forward to the class reunion. Herbert Anker '42, reports that his ninth grandchild, Jessica Sharpe, was born in March 1998. Genia (Chmielinski) Stebbins '42, is living in Marina Del Ray, CA. She is active in yacht club activities. Grace (MacDonald) Ross '43, is still going strong! She lives in Florida with her husband Wayne Ross '39. Jean Scheinfeldt '42, is living in Mattapan and is looking forward to the BHS reunion. Jeannette (Hurwitz) Feiner '43, has retired after 25 years of collecting consumer price guide information for the Federal Department of Labor Statistics. She plans to keep busy traveling, swimming and acting as president of her Hadassah chapter. She has five grandchildren. Barbara (Doyle) Kelley '43, and her daughter Karen '72 took a nostalgic trip back to England this year to visit her birthplace and "do" a bit of London! Sally (Bensusan) Sherman-Baker '43, has been living in Florida for 20 years but still visits Boston frequently. Her son Robert lives in Newton and practices law in Boston. She notes with irony that her grandson plays football for Newton North! Phyllis Wolfe '43, sadly reports that Laura (Wolff) Hofmann '43, passed away in February after a long illness. Sonia (Tratten) Zeidel '43, and her husband just moved into Orchard Cove from Florida. They have three children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Jeanne (Delaney) Kunzler '44, is recovering from a fractured tibia and learning to operate her brand new Pavilion/Hewlett Packard computer! Albert Maysles '44, reports that his motion picture "Grey Gardens" is now showing in theaters around the country. "The film is of a mother and daughter-the aunt and cousin of Jackie Onassis;an odd and beautiful love story, sort of," he reports. He recently completed work on a film about the Getty Art Center in Los Angeles and is beginning a film on poverty. Helen (Klose) Dirian '44, is living in Lancaster, PA. She recently visited Cape Cod, Boston and Brookline as a Mother's Day gift from her daughters and son-in-law. She had the chance to visit BHS and reports that it looks great! Lilli (Steen) Mitler '44, is living in Falls Church, VA. She would like BHS grads to call if planning a visit to Washington, D.C. (703-671-5740). Jacqueline (Delaney) Shanck '44, is living in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. She and her husband have been married for 48 years and are in their 15th home (including several years in Thailand). She and her husband are enjoying retirement-playing golf and communicating via email. Her son lives in Japan and her daughter lives in Washington, D.C. She reports that all is well and that she would love to hear from anyone who remembers her or sister Jeanne. Gloria (Kessler) LaPerle '44, is retired and living in a Class A motor home with her husband Bill. They have been to 49 states and most of Canada. Janice (Berg) Schulman '44, is retiring as a clinical school psychologist, and is planning to move to San Francisco to be with her married son and daughter and their children. Sarah (Fine) Bronstein '44, is loving retirement after 14 years with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She enjoys water aerobics, reading, politicking, concerts, museums and many other activities, including volunteering for "Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic." She is still living in Watertown, MA, after 40 years. Phyllis (Lebow) Darman '45, reports that she spends the winters in San Diego and lives in Chestnut Hill, MA. She would love to hear from other BHS grads. Dolores (Lowenstein) Baker '45, says she cannot believe that she is 70 years old! She resides in Wellington, FL. Ramon Rakoff '45, sadly reports that his wife of 47 years, Suzanne (Yusen) Rakoff '47, years passed away in July 1997. He says that he is managing well, living in Wayland, MA. Paulette (Knox) Harwood '45, is still teaching, choreographing and dancing. She says the jumps are lower, the kicks aren't as high, but the spins are just as fast! She recently celebrated the 38th season of Paulette's Ballet Studio in Newton, MA. A. Neill Osgood Jr. '46, is still touring around the country on a motorcycle. He is heading for Spokane and the Northwest this year. Dolores (Foster) Koffman '46, moved back to Framingham, MA, after living in New Jersey for 27 years. Welcome back to Massachusetts, Dolly! Irving Dublin '46, is married and splits his time between Boca Raton and Brookline. He volunteers at HRCA in Roslindale and drives for WE CARE when in Florida. His hobbies include golf and bridge. Harry I. Wolf '47, reports that he was delighted to hear from classmate Tom Tucker '47, after a hiatus of 25-35 years. Harry resides in Urbandale, IA. Florence (Hoskin) Breton '47, just finished her 28th year of teaching second grade in East Providence, RI. She and her husband celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary. They have three children and seven grandchildren. Davis Blume '48 is still working as assistant editor of the Los Angeles Times magazine. He is married to folk singer Carolyn Hester and accompanies her on piano on world tours! Ethel (Goldstein) De La Torre '49, is living in Lone Pine, CA and is looking forward to her 50th reunion, although she wonders how that can be since she's only 39??!!

Noel H. Seicol '40 reports that a third generation of his family has graduated from BHS: his granddaughter, Rebecca Seicol graduated this year. Rebecca's mother, Jennifer Lewis graduated from BHS in 1969. Shirley (Rosenberg) Endler '40 celebrated her 52nd anniversary with her husband, Jack. They are now living in Sunrise, FL. Their son, Mike is a middle-school physical education teacher and their daughter has a great job with Wang. They have four grandchildren-two from Peru! Theodore Shapiro '40 retired after 47 years of work at the Manhattan Project. He is enjoying the beauty of East Tennessee. He has four children and three grandchildren. Ted volunteers with Recording for the Blind. Arline (Roshkind) Paul '41 plays bridge regularly with Sheldon Konowitz '41 who lives five streets away from her. She reports that she and her husband Stanley are still traveling the world. They keep busy with book and investment clubs, as well as a lot of exercise. Jack Mates '41, was just elected President of the Distinguished Flying Cross Society. Christopher Hackett '42, is living in New York City. He reports that he ran into Arthur and Jeanne (Girard) Quinzani, both from the class of 1943. Arthur and Jeanne celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1995. H. Allen Larsen '42 reports that he and his wife, Margaret moved to the Austin, TX area after Margaret's appointment as president & CEO of Special Olympics Texas in 1995. They have five children and five grandchildren who are living, studying, working and playing all over the world! Sister Eileen Lally '42 reports that 52 years ago she entered the convent in Baltimore, MD. She is still working full time as director of Religious Education in Rehoboth Beach, DE. She would love to hear from classmates. Lawrence Laven '43 has been retired since 1988 as an electrical engineer for the City of Boston. He lives in West Newton with his wife Irene. He is involved in veterans organizations and volunteer work. Audrey Jane (Pinksohn) Piel '43 has been living in Florida for the past 32 years and is still enjoying it! She and her husband are looking forward to their grandson's wedding in June 1998. Richard Barkin '44 is living in Boca Raton, FL. He reports that a lot of BHS alumni live in the Boca Pointe area. George Isenberg '44 reports that he is happily married and still chasing, but not catching, girls! He lives primarily in Jupiter, FL, but also in Wellesley and Moultonbor- ough, NH. N. Lee Bausch '44, is living in San Diego. He is enjoying retirement after 30 years of flying with the Navy (fighters and light attack). His wife Judy faithfully continues her real estate broker duties in tune with the market and her clients. Marcia Barrabee '44 received her BA from Radcliffe in 1948, her MA from Earlham College in 1950 and and MA from Eastern Michigan in 1964. She has two children, one grandchild and one ex-husband. She has worked as a special education teacher, administrator for a low-income medical center and a librarian. Dr. Myron Ruscoll Sharaf '44 passed away in May, 1997. He was a noted biographer and interpreter of Wilhelm Reich, the Austrian-born psychiatrist and biophysicist. Dr. Sharaf was a teacher and psychotherapist with faculty appointments at Tufts and Harvard. Elizabeth (Kenrick) Oakes '44 moved to New Hampshire in 1993. She sends greetings to her classmates who share the great Granite State with her. F. Lorraine (Clark) Kelleher '44 is the president of two auto parts stores and racing business. She reports that she lost all of it in a huge fire in 1996. She has started up again and is doing well! She spends time island hopping and wintering at Bonita Beach in Florida. Sam Strock '45 reports that his company, S. Strock & Co., celebrated its 100th anniversary September 20, 1997 at the Massachusetts State House. Six hundred people joined in the celebration. Bob Forman '45 is living in Dallas, TX. He reports that he is still working full time as a judge in Dallas County. A. Smoki (Ruth Ginepra) Bacon '45 has a cable TV show called "On The Town With Smoki Bacon." She can be seen on Boston TV on Wednesdays; Cambridge TV on Thursdays and Newton TV on Thursdays, all at 7:30 p.m. Karen (Ljungquist) Wagner '46 is living in Warner, NH. Richard Silver '46 is retired and living the good life. He enjoys time with his grandchildren and doing the things he never had time to do. Joanne (Bloom) Perriens '47 retired in April from the National Security Agency after 45+ years as a civil servant. She and her husband have three children, four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. She spends her time doing volunteer work and researching family history. Suzanne (Brody) Greenberg '47 is still at Northeastern University, training physician assistants. She is living in Belmont, MA. John McCandlish Phillips '47 is living in New York City. He reports that media specialist Ken Auletta did a profile of him that ran in the New Yorker on January 6, 1997. Ruth (Freidson) Kavesh '47 has been working for nine years at Time Warner as assistant director of Benefits Communication, and likes it too much to retire (yet)! She has four children and one grandchild. Bob Glashow '47 is living in Providence, RI. He and his wife Diana have three children and five grandchildren, with one more on the way! They are planning a permanent move to the West Coast of Florida. Richard S. Miller '47 is living in Kailua, Hawaii. Dorothy (Steinmetz) Newell '47 is now retired after a career in development. She worked as the director of development at Harvard Medical School, the associate vp at Boston University School of Medicine, and then went back to Harvard as a consultant. She has three daughters and two grandchildren. Richard Snow '48 retired from NYNEX in December 1991. He and his wife moved to Orlando in June 1997, 15 minutes from their two sons and six grandchildren. Rosalie (Insoft) Clebnik '49 and her husband Allan will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary in June. They recently took a cruise through the Panama Canal to celebrate this milestone. Martha (Wilkie) Longino '49 passed away July 16, 1997 at the age of 66. She graduated from Wheelock College and taught elementary school from 1953-1954. She then moved to Germany with her husband Mercer Longino and then to the Arlington, VA area. She had three sons. Melvin Norris '49 has moved his law office to 220 Boylston Street, Chestnut Hill, MA. Mary (Lee) Woodhouse '49, died June 15, 1991. She is survived by her husband, Richard Woodhouse '43, who is living in Westwood, MA.

Leo M. Gulley, '40, retired from the Air Force after 21 years of service. He has three sons-Leo, Jr, Mike and John. Chester A. Rubin, '40, has retired after 36 years as director of activities at Temple Emanuel in Newton, MA. Norman Stearns, MD, '40, is still working at Tufts Medical School and is the director of a new program at Tufts which offers an MD and MBA in Health Management. Charlotte Barron '40, works as a census reader for the city of Newton and is a member of the Women's Memorial, which is being built in Washington, D.C., to honor the women who served in the services in WWII. Eldon Scott Cohen, '41, has moved his office from downtown Washington to Capitol Hill. He has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Public Diplomacy Foundation. James McIntosh, '41, and his wife Helen (McElroy) McIntosh, '43, enjoy six months a year in New Hampshire and Florida in the winter. James retired as assistant dean of Boston University's School of Management. Barbara (Kadetsky) Huberman, '41, is living in Palos Verdes, CA. She is a buyer for Assistance League Gift Shop. Dr. Thomas McEntee, '41, recently moved to North Carolina after 41 years in the same house in Westwood, MA. Dee L. Powers (Dotty Blanchard), '42, tutors uneducated young adults and is a partner in a mail-order company that specializes in 1/87 scale trucks and cars for collectors and modelers. A. Eric Andersen, '42, resigned as president, board member and editor for ARCO Suburban Phila Retirees Club, Inc. C.J. Hacket, '42, is living in New York City and reports that he is "alive, but not kicking much." Rosemarie (Farkas) Myerson '42, and husband Dick lead a wonderful life in retirement. They play tennis, and golf. They have three children and three grandchildren. Ruth (Hackel) Zirin, '42, is living in Marblehead, enjoys her five grandchildren and is involved in local politics. Samuel S. Brooker, '42, winters in Florida and spends summers in Maine. Nancy (Lane) Rynearson, '43, is expecting her 24th grandchild! She stays busy playing golf and traveling to see her nine children. Norma Goldwyn (Adelson), '43, is living in Jamaica, NY. Evelyn (Gorfinkle) Lerman, '43, will soon have a book published called, "Teen Moms: The Pain and the Promise." James F. Miller, '43, is married with six children and seven grandchildren. He is still working and maintaining an active lifestyle. Marvin "Mickey" Geller, '43, is a town meeting member in Brookline from Precinct 15. He is the senior partner in the law firm of Bernkopf, Goodman and Basemen, Boston. Bob Brest, '43, has retired after 38 years as an auto dealer. He now volunteers his time as a consultant to small auto dealers to help them improve their operations. Dorothy (Taymor) Lakin, '44, is living in Delray Beach, FL and is addicted to duplicate bridge. Fay L. Ruby, '44, is living on the west coast of Florida and is seeking individuals who would like to have a mini reunion. Mrs. Milton (Kesell) Feinson, '44, was recently honored in New Orleans for 40 years of voluntary service with the National Kidney Foundation of MA and RI. James Leslie, '44, reports that his five children have completed a total of 41 years of undergraduate and graduate school training! He and his wife are enjoying elderhostel programs in the US and overseas. N. Lee Bausch, 44, is pleased to report that all six sons and daughter, Ann, are married. He currently has 17 grandchildren. His wife, Judy, is a real estate broker. Mel Seidenberg, '44, is the executive vice president of an engineering company. He is living in Wilmette, IL and has three married children and six grandchildren. Ann (Ruth Ann Myers) Flegel, '44, is practicing law in San Jose, CA. Her husband, Earl retired as a classroom teacher and is now an office manager. They have three children, four grandchildren and two cats. Daphne H. (Golden) Glassman, '45, divides her time between Cape Cod and Florida. Enid (Greenberg) Shapiro, '45, is again living in Brookline and wondering why she ever left. She is still working as a scoial worker. Lois (Bronstein) Foster, '45, moved from the suburbs to the city of Boston-and loves it!. Jeanne (Magner) Flaman, '46, has been married to her husband, Ferny for 50 years. They live part of the year in Pompano Beach, FL. Carlton I. Garfield, '46, and his wife, Helen, celebrated their 44th anniversary last November. He and his wife have one daughter, Gail and a grandson, Scott. Rose (McQueeney) Pattison, '46, is living in Wayland, MA. Sabin S. Levenson, MD, '46, is living in Phoenix, AZ and reports that he enjoyed his reunion immensely! Irene (Alpert) Saslow, '47, has been living in California for the past 49 years. She enjoys meeting people of different cultures. She has four children and six grandchildren. James D. Dickson, '47, lives with his wife Nancy in a wee cottage in rural Ireland. He reports that he messes about in his garden, visits the pub from time to time and entertains visiting Yanks who pass by. He and his wife have lived in Ireland for 10 years and enjoy the quality of life the country offers. Barbara (Hillson) Abramowitz, '47, is the president of Barbara Hillson Associates, a development and fundraising consultant company. She is living in Washington, D.C. Marilyn (Parent) Dekker, '47, is living in Spain and enjoying the sun and fun of the Mediterranean. Arlene (Milton) Silverman, '47, sadly reports tht her husband died in 1994. She stays busy with condo committee meetings and her grandchildren. Mitzi (Greenbaum) Korn, '48, is retired and living in Boyton Beach, FL. Paul Selya, '48, and his wife, Eve have two sons and six grandchildren. Paul has his own health-care marketing research business. Parker Foster, '48, has retired after 37 years with NYNEX. He has been married to his wife Virginia for 42 years and has two sons and six grandchildren. Charles Rice, '48, is the state commissioner of the Colorado Amateur Softball Association. Paul Heider, '48, and his wife Norma have seven children and 16 grandchildren. He is retired from Heider Construction, Inc. which he started 30 years ago. Jack Schoenfeld, '48, is currently the president of Dunhill of Manchester, an executive search firm. He has been married for 43 years and has two daughters. Aaron "Ronnie" Greenberg, '49, continues to work as a producer and consultant for TV game shows. He has been married for 37 years, has three children and two grandchildren. Alan S. Witkin, '49, has been retired for seven years and is devoting his time as a volunteer for several non-profit organizations. He and his wife have been traveling around the world. Janet Welsh Brown, '49, retired after 15 years working on international environmental issues for a non-profit organization. She has three children and lives in D.C. with her husband. Dr. Earl L. Cherniak, '49, is in his 42nd year of active practice and serves as president of L'Ermitage Foundation. He and his wife, Renee, have seven children and six grandchildren. Arnold M. Zack, '49, is teaching Alternative Dispute Resolution at Yale Law School and Harvard Trade Union Program. Ken Elgart, '49, is a CPA with offices in Brookline. He lives in Newton with his wife, Judy Ellis, '57.
