Brookline High School Athletic Hall of Fame - Class of 2004

The Brookline High School Athletic Hall of Fame was established at a meeting on November 16, 1993 to honor outstanding athletes, coaches, and supporters of Brookline High School Athletics. Current members of the committee are Chairman Bill McKeown ‘59, Jim Hennessey ‘55, Owen Carle ’39, Jack Heavey ’69, and Shirley Flanagan McDonald ’59. Jerry Varnum ’59 serves as a liaison to the BHS Alumni Association.

We're happy to announce the 2004 class, which will be inducted in June:

  • Coach Madalyn Cocoran
  • Frank Goldschmidt ’59
  • Kevin Fleming ’64
  • Glenn Carle ’74
  • Mark Hetnick ’74
  • Warrior Award winner -- Eliot Driben ’69

Criteria for an athlete to be inducted into the Hall of Fame includes having an outstanding career on one or more varsity teams and graduating from BHS. The athlete is eligible for induction five years after graduating.

A coach is eligible for induction if he or she had an outstanding career for more than 10 years at BHS and is no longer coaching at the school.

The Warrior Award is given to “someone who has given outstanding service to Brookline High School athletics and who has shown good moral character, dedication, devotion, and loyalty to BHS athletics.”

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at an annual dinner at the end of each school year, which will also honor all of the varsity letter winners.

In 1993 the first Hall of Fame inductees were honored. They included Coach Harry Downes, Charles O’Hearn ’19, Jack Kirrane ’47, Alan Sutherland ’55, Tom Hennessey ’59, Fred Newman ’60, and Karolyn Kirby ’79.
